ABOUT THE CAST | David Ainsworth (Sir Harry) Dave is very happy to be working with such a wonderful group of talented people. You may remember him in SRT’s production of How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying, in which he played the lecherous Mr. Gatch. More recently, Dave has been working at the San Diego Civic Light Opera, where he appeared as Avram in Fiddler on the Roof, and as the coffee boy in their production of H2$. In addition, he has performed at the very successful San Diego Bravo event; as a performer at the KPBS theatre awards show (the Patte Awards); and opposite David Rivas in Lend Me A Tenor, fumbling around as Max. A native of Southern California, Dave received his theatre training at the University of San Diego and Oxford, England. He has written two plays, one full-length play in verse, Sulla, and a one-act play called The Home Office. Many props go to all his friends for their unyielding support, and especially to his wife, Marlene. Bisous. | | Susan E. V. Boland (King Sextimus the Silent) Once Upon a Mattress is the Scripps Ranch debut for this versatile singer/actor. From a scene-stealing little boy in Gianni Schicchi to an eccentric French Duchess in Time Remembered, Sue has successfully taken on a wide variety of notable on-stage characters. A San Diego regular, Sue has often given audiences new insights into characters such as Aunt Eller in Oklahoma, Mae Peterson in Bye, Bye, Birdie, and Widow Corney in Oliver. Finding a voice for this outspoken monarch has been a joy. This fall Sue will put a more traditional, though just as eccentric, voice to Lady Psyche in Princess Ida, with Lyric Opera San Diego. A CPA by day, Sue remains indebted to family and friends who know just when to say, “enough”! |
| Brett Daniels (Wizard) Brett is excited to be making his debut at Scripps Ranch Theatre. Most recently he was seen in Sweet Charity (Moonlight); Working (Patio Playhouse); Porn Yesterday (2003 Fritz Blitz at the Lyceum) and Reading Lips (6th@Penn). He has performed in various productions in San Diego and Chicago. His favorite roles to date include Seymour in Little Shop of Horrors and Che in Evita. When not on stage, Brett is a realtor. “It’s a good life!” | | Darci Daniels-Murphy (Minstrel) This is Darci’s debut performance with SRT. Previous roles include the Wicked Stepmother in Cinderella, (Coronado Playhouse); Eliza Doolittle in My Fair Lady (BSPAC); and Polly Peachum in Three Penny Opera (The Desert Opera Guild). She is a concert performer at Pala Casino, House of Blues, and Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas. Darci states, “I feel very fortunate to be able to share this experience with my daughter – Princess #12.” | | Debbie David (Winnifred) Debbie David is thrilled to be returning to the San Diego theater scene after a three-year hiatus in Boston. By day, she was the Assistant Director of the Theater Division at the Boston Conservatory. By night, Debbie appeared on stage in shows such as Best Little Whorehouse in Texas, World Goes ‘Round, and Steel Magnolias. However, her favorite performance took place on the field at Fenway Park, singing the National Anthem. San Diego audiences may remember Debbie’s Aubrey Award-winning performances as Sonia in They’re Playing Our Song (Coronado Playhouse), and Kathy in Vanities (PowPac). She also has appeared in shows at North Coast Rep, Starlight Theater, the Avo, and the Carlsbad Cultural Arts Center. Debbie would like to extend huge ‘thank yous’ to A.C. for years of love and patience, to RJ for her support and for giving her the opportunity to work with such amazing people (especially her favorite “Queen”), and to Alisa and Carmen. You girls make a great team! | | Karen E. Donahue (Emily) A dedicated, dynamic, high school choir teacher is Karen Donahue's inspiration for why she still sings today. As a lyric soprano, Karen has performed as understudy to the main lead and as an ensemble member in two of San Diego Comic Opera's productions, Rose Marie and The Red Mill. She also has appeared in Diversionary's production of Hair in 1996. She has been invited to sing The National Anthem at numerous Padres home games, and you may also have heard her at the Acura Tennis Classics in La Costa. She currently is a cantor for the San Diego Catholic Diocese, and is requested often to sing at weddings and other special occasions. Karen wishes to extend to her children and life partner much love and heartfelt thanks for their love and support of all her life-long dreams and endeavors. | | Megan Dueck (Lady Mary Kay) In November of 2002, Megan had her community theater debut as the role of Babe in the Foundry Players' production of the musical, Working. Megan went on to perform in two more shows with this Washington, D.C.-based company. She played the part of Celia in The Curate Shakespeare As You Like It, and Ruby in the one-act, Stage Directions. Megan recently relocated from D.C. to San Diego and hopes to keep up her community theatre momentum while pursuing a Ph.D. in Molecular Pathology at UCSD. | | Cornell Ellison (Lady Noxema) Cornell’s San Diego theatre dream has finally come true: to work with Raylene and SRT, and she is grateful. Cornell has been involved in every aspect of theatre from hunting down or making unusual props, to hammering screws, to teaching two left feet to dance and look good performing. Her favorite roles are The Mock Turtle in Alice in Wonderland, Sister Sarah Brown in Guys and Dolls, Tilliebelle (one of the ugly stepsisters) in Cinderella, and most recently, Grace Clemings in Working. Cornell wants to thank her two horses and her dog for understanding this need to be on stage and not with them 24/7; and to her husband, Mike, who is her inspiration, her rock, her best buddy, and biggest fan. | | Eric Gonzales (Sir Calvin Klein) Eric is thrilled to once again perform on the SRT stage, appearing last in the award-winning production of How to Succeed….
