by Richard Dresser
Directed by Robert May
May 21* – June 25, 2011

Rounding Third by Richard DresserCome be a little leaguer as Coach Don and Coach Michael (a bit of an Odd Couple) lead you to victory or to, um, enjoyment of the game?  A very comical and heart-warming look at baseball and fatherhood and life values.

This play reflects the passions, the joy and the pain that fills the heart of any person who has ever loved a child who was competing for anything, from sports to spelling bees …." San Jose Repertory Theatre

Reviews:

"Now if you want to see a pair of perfectly matched performances, check out Scripps Ranch Theatre’s “Rounding Third,” Richard Dresser’s delightful and occasionally poignant comedy about diametrically opposed Little League coaches – a blue-collar, killer competitor; and a corporate baseball newbie who thinks the kids should just have fun. As this odd couple butts heads, they learn about friendship, tolerance, parenting and life. Crackling dialogue, outstandingly delivered by John Nutten and Walter Murray, under the astute direction of Robert May. This production totally knocks it outta the park."
" . . . a home run."
  - Pat Launer, Center Stage

"Both actors shine. Nutten takes on the less likable Don and, because of his personal charm and likeability, makes the character vulnerable and appealing. In Murray’s hands and mouth, Michael’s verbal and mental reticence and uncertainty also become assets. "Dresser’s dialogue may be facile, but his understanding of human nature is fathoms deep. The direction of Robert May, a veteran of Little League himself and an admitted “horrible hitter,” is pitch perfect (pun intended)." - Charlene Baldridge, Words Are Not Enough
