 Scripps Ranch Theatre presents a musical for the entire family -- You're a Good Man Charlie Brown (1999 revised version) tells the story of an average time in the life of the famous Peanuts comic strip child hero, Charlie Brown. Most of the characters are 5-6 years old, however the show obviously is cast older, with actor-singers from mid-teens to mid-30s who can evoke the bearing and act the part of a single-digit child. The audience is introduced to the whole Peanuts gang: Sally, Shroeder, Linus, Lucy and Snoopy. All of the characters share their observations, largely negative, of Charlie Brown. As the play progresses, the relationships of the Peanuts characters to one another are further expanded. Lucy is infatuated with Schroeder and takes great pleasure in tormenting Charlie Brown. Linus loves his blanket. Snoopy lives in his rich imagination. Charlie Brown is in love with a mysterious little, redheaded girl. The show ends with each character listing things that for him or her equal happiness. Finally, Lucy ends up telling Charlie Brown what a good man he is, leaving a smiling, happy Charlie Brown alone on stage.

(Director) is the proud Artistic Director for J* Company Youth Theatre. He has won over 40 awards for his work with young artists in San Diego, including a special creativity award that gained over $10,000.00 for Rady Children’s Hospital’s cancer unit. Joey moved to San Diego from New York City, having worked as a professional actor and director on and off Broadway, in national tours and regional theater, and directing and soloing at Carnegie Hall. Joey received his MFA in acting and directing from Ohio State University and has studied under such instructors as Betty Buckley, Marcel Marceau, Francis Sternhagen, F. Murray Abraham, and Twila Tharpe. He has had the privilege of working with such greats as Phyllis Diller, Sam Harris, Harvey Fierstein, Kristin Chenoweth, Victoria Mallory, Joel Grey, Kaye Ballard, Michael Feinstein, Patti LuPone and the late, great Howard Keel. Joey is a proud member of Actors’ Equity Association (AEA), the Screen Actors Guild (SAG), the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (AFTRA), the Director’s Guild of America (DGA), the Actors Alliance of San Diego (AASD), and Americans for the Arts (AFTA). Since moving to San Diego Joey has worked for the San Diego Performing Arts League as Membership and Community Development Director, and in 2007 received the “40 Under 40” Award from San Diego Metropolitan Magazine for outstanding leadership in the arts. In San Diego, in addition to SRT, Joey has worked with Diversionary Theatre, the San Diego Shakespeare Society, La Jolla Playhouse, The Old Globe, San Diego REP, Lipinsky Family Jewish Arts Festival, San Diego Junior Theatre, San Diego Symphony, Orchestra Nova San Diego and The Actors Alliance Festival, winning five different excellence awards. At J* Company he has had the privilege of directing over 20 musicals, and this season will direct J*Company’s productions of The Who’s Tommy, Thoroughly Modern Millie, and Xanadu, all in proud partnership with La Jolla Playhouse. (Schroeder) returns to San Diego after having trained on the East Coast for the past four years. Since returning he has performed with Moonlight Stage Productions, Starlight Amphitheatre, and Legoland California. In addition to theater, he is an active film actor throughout Southern California, having worked on several independent films that are currently circulating throughout the national and international film festival circuits, which most recently included the thriller “Burmese Refugee.” His acting training is from The Boston Conservatory and Point Park University. (Charlie Brown) graduated with his Bachelor of Arts in Drama from Queensland University of Technology in Australia, and received his Masters degree in Musical Theatre from San Diego State University. He has worked professionally as an actor, singer, host, playwright, director and dancer in Singapore as well as in California, in over 50 stage productions, a dozen television series, and four feature films. (Linus Van Pelt) has been performing in San Diego for 11 years now and has enjoyed every minute. This is his second production with Scripps Ranch Theatre, having appeared previously in I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change when it was performed here four years ago, and he is very excited to be back! Currently Matthew works with The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society: Team In Training and will be running in a half marathon in February representing them; giving back is what he enjoys the most!
