What’s the play about?

“Play It Again, Sam” is a hilariously wonderful comedy about a shy, nerdy bachelor who is a Humphrey Bogart fan. The spirit of Bogey visits him to help him make his way through the world of dating.  Those under 30 can relate to the main character's struggles to find a date, to relax and to be himself.  Those over 30 will delight in his relationship to Bogart and the insights into marriage that we discover through his best friends’ relationship.

“Play It Again, Sam will appeal to audience members of all ages,” says Jill Drexler, Scripps Ranch Theatre’s Artistic Director. “It's Woody Allen at his best.   There are some hilarious dream sequences, some pithy philosophy, and it all ends up happily.  What more could a playgoer ask for?”

"hilarious ... a cheerful romp."  "Not only are Mr. Allen's jokes audaciously brilliant, but he has a great sense of character."  "A funny, likeable comedy that has a surprising amount of wistful appeal."
