Scripps Ranch Theatre
announces auditions for
The Last Night of Ballyhoo
(Tony Award for Best Play, 1997)
Directed by Tim Irving
Produced by Kelly Lapczynski
By the author of Driving Miss Daisy, Alfred Uhry’s funny and
heartwarming story of the Freitag family is a study of social demands
and elitism among the Jewish community in Atlanta in 1939. It is
Christmas, and the Freitags have a Christmas tree in their living room.
The family gets pulled apart and then mended together as they face where
they came from and who they are. “A charming, wonderfully crafted
play.” (Variety)

Breakdown:
(The roles of ADOLPH FREITAG, an unmarried Jewish businessman, and BOO
LEVY, his sister, have been pre-cast.)
We are seeking actors for the following roles:
REBA FREITAG: Adolph's sweetly vague sister-in-law (40+). Always sees
the positive. Is constantly knitting. Mother of Sunny.
LALA LEVY: Boo's daughter, 20s. Socially awkward and prone to flights of
tempestuous fancy. On the outside, dreams of being Scarlett O’Hara. On
the inside is Laura from Glass Menagerie.
SUNNY FREITAG: Reba's daughter, 20s. Home from Wellesley College for
Christmas vacation, she is more pragmatic and intellectually curious
than the rest of her family.
JOE FARKAS: Adolph's business assistant, 20s. A bright and proud
Brooklyn-born Jew of Eastern European descent. In Atlanta, he suffers
the prejudice of being the "wrong kind" of Jew.
PEACHY WEIL: A visitor from Lake Charles, 20s. Upper class and
considered to be from the "right kind" of Jewish family. He thinks he's
funny, but is actually just obnoxious.
