Scripps Ranch Theatre Presents
“The Last Night of Ballyhoo”
Show Opens November 7th and runs until Saturday, December 6th
This year you can welcome in the holiday season by attending Scripps Ranch Theatre’s first-ever production of The Last Night of Ballyhoo -- a comedy/drama by Alfred Uhry, the author of Driving Miss Daisy. This Tony Award-winning play examines the challenges of a Jewish family living in the Bible Belt. It is Christmas 1939, and the Freitags have a Christmas tree in their living room. The family gets pulled apart and then mended together as they face where they came from and who they are. “A charming, wonderfully crafted play.”
The Last Night of Ballyhoo is produced by Kelly Lapczynski and directed by Tim Irving. It features Danny Campbell as Adolph Freitag, Jill Drexler as Boo Levy, DeNae Steele as Lala Levy, Dana Hooley as Reba Freitag, Morgan Trant as Sunny Freitag, Alex Chernow as Joe Farkas, and Jude Evans as Peachy Weil.
“I think anyone who’s ever spent the holidays at a family gathering will have a great time with this show,” says director Tim Irving. “I’ve always been a fan of playwright Alfred Urhy’s Driving Miss Daisy, and so I’m thrilled to be working on his equally delightful The Last Night of Ballyhoo. What I enjoy most is that it has the kind of humor, drama and rivalries that can only happen when you bring your relatives together under one roof for any length of time.”
“Even though set in December of 1939, this story is very relevant to our lives today,” added Irving. “The Freitags are not only dealing with the uncertainty of their own futures, but also with the changes and uncertainty of the world at large. It has a little something for everyone and I think it’s really a lovely, funny and heartfelt show for the Christmas season.”
For the 2008-2009 season, Scripps Ranch Theatre has launched a new subscription program that allows subscribers to customize their season subscription, starting at $55 for 4 plays and $65 for five.
