“The Shadow Box”

In this Pulitzer Prize- and Tony Award-winning play by Michael Cristofer, three families face the impending loss of a loved one in a manner that spans the human condition: touching, tearful, courageous, hopeful and at times surprisingly hilarious. is not about dying, but about embracing life, its finality and the meaning of close friends and family.

Scripps Ranch Theatre’s production of The Shadow Box is directed by Jim Caputo, produced by Barbara Barber, and features long-time SRT favorite Michelle DeFrancesco, as well as newcomers to our stage Eddie Yaroch, James Darvas, Pamela Fadden, and Jacob Gardenswartz. The cast is rounded out with SRT veterans Allison MacDonald, Kaly McKenna, Marty Salkin and Joe Solazzo.

Rarely presented in San Diego, in 1977 The Shadow Box won the Tony Award for Best play and the Pulitzer Prize for Drama. It was also nominated for the Drama Desk Award for Outstanding New American Play.

“We are expanding our programming range, widening our direction with this presentation,” said Jill Drexler, Scripps Ranch Theatre Artistic Director. “This is the first of the ‘fifth play’ series instituted this season to provide our audiences with a more challenging and varied theatrical experience.”
Seats for individual shows are available for $19. Students, seniors and active military seats are $17. Child admissions (12 and under) are $9.
All performances are held in the Legler Benbough Theatre on the campus of Alliant International University (formerly United States International University) on Avenue of Nations in Scripps Ranch, one-half mile east of the I-15/Miramar-Pomerado Road exit.
