Scripps Ranch Theatre Presents
"They're Playing Our Song"

They're Playing Our Song opens January 16, 2010 and
runs through February 20, 2010

Book by Neil Simon, Music by Marvin Hamlisch and
Lyrics by Carol Bayer Sager

A full-scale musical, They’re Playing Our Song is a classic Neil Simon comedy in the tradition of The Odd Couple, Barefoot in the Park, Plaza Suite, Chapter Two, and The Goodbye Girl. Mr. Simon has received numerous Tony awards, as well as a Golden Globe and the prestigious Pulitzer Prize.

Perfect for families and audiences of all ages, this production will send you out the door with a smile on your face and a song in your heart.

They're Playing Our Song is directed by Rick Shaffer and produced by Chad Oakley. The production features Barron Henzel and Jennie Gray Connard in the leading roles, with an ensemble that includes Jonathan Dotson, Stephanie Hester, Dante Macatantan, Sven Salumaa, Stephanie Sullivan and Anya Tuerk.

The story recounts the hysterical relationship of a successful, straight-laced composer and a quirky, aspiring lyricist as they try to balance a volatile working relationship with an unexpected and totally unlikely romantic attraction to one another. (They’re Playing Our Song is loosely based on the real-life romance of Marvin Hamlisch and lyricist Carole Bayer Sager.)

According to director Rick Shaffer, "What make this wonderful comedy especially unique are the memorable, hummable songs written by Marvin Hamlisch at the peak of his songwriting career."

An Academy Award-winner and multi-Grammy-award-winner, Mr. Hamlisch is the current conductor of the San Diego Pops.  Among his most popular works are the scores for such hit films as The Way We Were, A Chorus Line, The Goodbye Girl, and The Sting. "Neil Simon, Marvin Hamlisch, Carol Bayer Sager!  What wit, what music, what fun!" says Jill Drexler, Scripps Ranch Theatre's Artistic Director. "Get your tickets early and bring your friends."

SRT is currently offering a three-show package for the remainder of the 2009-10 season. The three productions are They’re Playing Our Song and the comedies, Over the River and Through the Woods and Now Now, Darling.  The price for this package is $55 for adults, or $50 for seniors, students and active military. (This represents up to a 12% savings over regular ticket prices.) Seats for individual shows are available for $20 for adults, or $18 for students, seniors and active military. (The musical is $2 more for each.) Preview-night tickets (Jan. 15) are available as well.
