Scripps Ranch Theatre Presents “The Madwoman of Chaillot”

Scripps Ranch Theatre Special Event

Staged Readings -  January 25 and January 26 at 8pm

Scripps Ranch Theatre announces the staged reading of “The Madwoman of Chaillot”.   An all-star cast of San Diego actors will bring this poetic and comic fable to life.  According to Jill Drexler, Scripps Ranch Theatre Artistic Director, “The Madwoman of Chaillot is a wonderful play, filled with a strong sense of the playful, the paradoxical, and the downright quirky.  A master of witty dialogue, nonsensical situations and bold reality twists, Jean Giradoux is considered to be one of the greatest French dramatists of the twentieth century.”

This zany comedy/drama is set in the twilight zone of the not-quite-true, and those who seem crazy turn out to have the most common sense. Countess Aurelia, with the help of her ragamuffin friends, fends off the arrogant plans of a pack of greedy businessmen to drill under the streets of Paris and destroy the city in a search for oil.  Despite being dismissed as a crazy old woman, she is able to toss a monkey wrench into their war machine and do it in the space of a single afternoon!

“Theatrical magic is a rare thing,” said Drexler. “Come watch a spectacular cast of San Diego actors make it happen on January 25 and 26.”

The performers include:  Jim Caputo, Eric Poppick, Charlie Riendeau,  Manny Fernandez, Allan Salkin, Jim Chovick, Jill Drexler, Amanda Sitton,  Tom Andrew, Wendy Waddell, Sandy Campbell, and Priscilla Allen

No reservations are necessary.  The performances are free.  Donations will be accepted at the door

The performances will held in the theater on the campus of Alliant International University (formerly United States International University) at 10455 Pomerado Road in Scripps Ranch, one-half mile east of the I-15/Miramar-Pomerado Road exit.
